One thing that is apparent from the moment you enter Coto de Caza is an equestrian atmosphere that is slightly reminiscent of New England or perhaps Northern California. The main streets are highlighted by an endless white fence that borders the equestrian/hiking trials that run through much of Coto. The other notable feature (which may not occur to you at first) is the almost complete lack of palm trees. Instead, you will notice that the entire community is dotted with California Live oaks, sycamores, pines, liquid ambers, camphor trees, California peppers, and other native (but New England looking) trees.
