Shady Canyon Golf Course IrvineLike so many truly memorable courses, Shady Canyon is a golf course that seems slightly different every time you play.

The Tom Fazio-designed course winds through the canyon, around the bends and folds of the hills, following the natural change of the elevation, passing rock outcroppings, stands of sycamores and creek beds. According to architect Tom Fazio, “The ultimate goal is to have it appear as if nothing has been done, that the layout is completely natural. Many of the great courses have these reputations, they just appear to fit perfectly in their environment. Shady Canyon is this kind of golf course.”

  • Within the golf course’s 300 acres are 18 dramatic holes – some disappear into ravines, others ascend slopes.
  • The front nine is aligned generally to Shady Creek; the back nine follows East Shady Creek deep into the adjacent nature preserve.
  • The course measures 7,012 yards from the back tees.

Tom Fazio holds a distinction among golf designers for creating the most harmonious designs of routing and natural terrain. Fazio has designed more than 120 courses and has more courses ranked among the top 100 in the U.S. then anyone else in the business. His individual honors include Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect, which he received from Golf Digest Magazine three times. In 1995, Fazio became only the second course architect to receive the highest recognition awarded by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America – The Old Tom Morris Award.
